@jessica Maybe some content is only relevant to very specific people but unless it's extremely personal stuff, one should open his blog to the masses. Maybe some people would appreciate your brother's poems or your friend's jokes if they find their blog.

@nicole I think to be able to creatle unique stuff, one should learn from other people by observing what they do but never follow their path.

So true! I've been thinking a similar thought for a while and I find it highly frustrating. I want fresh new content, something that gives me reason to read that persons blog.

I think that some people forget that if they want to stand out they shouldn't follow the crowd. Why would someone read person A's blog over person B's when they have the same content?

I've also noticed that frankly, there's a lot of crap on the web. Recycled content, broken links, obnoxious material, defunct blogs (guilty, but I don't go around posting the link). It just seems like an artifact of the system. We've finally switched from a traditional media system with a few producers and many consumers to many producers and equally many consumers, without quality oversight. You're right - one can spend any length of time wading through content that's not worth the effort. And it's overwhelming, if you get stuck in the mud.

But does that mean not everyone should be content producers on the web? I don't know. I actually think everyone has some thoughts that are going to be worth while to a few others, just not necessarily a larger group. For example, a ton of my friends have personal blogs that I read regularly, but I wouldn't send strangers to their sites. I care that person X took a four hour bike ride and person Y got stuck in an airport, but I don't think a wider audience would rush to find out.

I think web 2.0 is at its finest when it connects small and medium communities. Not everyone can or should be a star, but everyone can use the system to connect up.

I think there are more Einstein's out there, and I think there are a ton of people with great ideas. But like you pointed out, they can be swamped by the noise. But reading a poem my brother posts, or laughing out loud in my office because of my friend's stupid jokes on their blogs is something web 2.0 empowers, and it makes my life better every day.

...or their 15 megs of fame :)

Yes it may be hard to come out on a daily basis with true original content. It's not bad at all to be inspired by others in order to write blogposts or create content. But what we write must at least add something to the conversation.

I guess everybody now feels entitled to their 15 minutes of fame. Even though some might deserve only 5 minutes.
I guess the problem lies with the fact that Google and the like need to see fresh content on our blogs and websites regularly to help our ranking.

It's not easy to come up with something unique and great every day or so.
